6211 Backward roll
Stage: Novice/Intermediate
Stage characteristics: Crouches into a smooth rolling position back is flat from side to side and curved from buttocks to head hands placed at shoulders knees bent with kickout into the upright position.
What to change: Hands were ov er the shoulder however left hand went down first then right hand more power with the kickout with left foot resulting in the backwards roll becoming overpowered and pushing the athlete out of alignment.
Cue: Even hand placement and even kick out.

Stage: beginner with some

Stage: beginner with some experience

Characteristics: the man squats fully into position, however, from the video angle, I do not believe his chin is tucked. I would have preferred his hands begin on the floor, but since they did end up in proper postion during the roll, it was fine. I do not like how his chin was visibly pressed into his chest while he rolled back and how the entire roll took place on his head. His knees should have been held together, but he did land on both feet when completing the roll.

What To Change: My entire focus would be on getting the roll off his head. He is risking a neck injury in his current form. His hands are in the proper position, he just needs to use them properly to lift himself from the floor.

Cues: Tuck your chin; push off with your hands; create space between top of head and floor.
