Inner Forearm Block

Comments

HWS 342

These comments are being left as part of summer course. In no way are they meant to demean you or your art. I comment on the common aspects of all forms of martial technique application.

Stage: Intermediate

Stage Characteristics:

- Transition: your legs are straight upon moving into your horse stance causing you to fall hard into the stance. at the same time this sends your energy downward rather than into your block.

- Arm/shoulder position: upon contact your elbow is leading in front of your forearm. your lead shoulder is leaning into your opponent over your base leaving vulnerable to attack.

- Stance. Your knees are bending slightly inward.

What to change: Bend your legs prior to moving into the strike. this will change your levels and alter your weight distribution to the hips enabling you to move in closer to your opponent. Being in closer to your opponent will remedy your shoulder position ensuring that you don not overextending your self past your base while throwing the block. make sure that when throwing the (outer) inner forearm block your move you arm in a L or 90 degree form with the muscles of the shoulder. This will remedy your elbow being in front of your block. Tilt your pelvis forward this will ensure your knees do not buckle inward.

Cue: this time most of your problems are coming from not being a the proper level to defend the strike is would remind you by saying: "Lower your center of gravity"
