Analysis for PES 294
Stage: intermediate
Stage characteristics: She has her feet and shoulders squared to the basket. She keeps her head up and focused on the goal.
What to change: She needs to bring her right elbow up and make more of a right angle. When she releases the ball she needs a little more arc in the shot so it isn't flat. She should aim for the middle of the square on the backboard.
Que: Arc the ball higher and lift elbow
free throw
I love that set up, a great way to shoot alone. of course if analizing her form one could say get you elbow up and straightin your arm, but still pretty good.
Free throw
The skill level is intermediate
Your form is very good. You stay squared up and follow through nicely, you use your legs to propel your shot and keep your eyes focused on the target. Great job. If I was to critique anything I would say it looks like you are pushing the ball a little. Bend the elbow to get a little more arc under the ball.
Basketball set shot
This young lady is in the advanced level for shooting a set shot.
1) Her body leans forward just slightly.
2) The ball is held by her favorite hand on the same (right) side of her head. The non-favorite hand is gently on the left side of the ball for stability.
3) She bends and extends her legs to power the shot.
4) Follow through is consistent by pointing her right hand at the target after the ball is released.
5) The ball takes a high arching path to the rim, which increases the odds of the ball going into the goal.
Here are 3 cues I would use to help students learn this skill -
1) Eyes on rim (you must see the target before going into the shot motion to increase your odds of making the shot)
2) Elbow under ball (this moves the ball slightly away from the eyes and improves vision and accuracy)
3) Bend and extend (the legs provide alot of power for each shot)
she is a good free throw
she is a good free throw shooter. she does good about keeping her routine and not trying to change it every time she is about to shoot. she does good about using both hands to correct way. this video can be shown to young athletes and teach them how to shoot.
Free Throw Video
Stage:Expert
Stage characteristics:Following through with the hands, a flick of the wrist at the apex of the shot. Repitition and balance starting at setting her feet and dribbling two times between shots pushing off with theballs of her feet but not leaving the feet to shoot.
What to change: Nothing to change, the repetitious style of approach worked for her and the ball went in each time.
Cue: Repetition
free throw
Stage: Intermediate
Stage characteristics: I don't put this shooter in the expert, however she is close to merging to this stage. Her feet are shoulder width apart and she has a good balance. She leans forward slightly, however her elbow is too low and she pushes the ball too much. She needs to bring her elbow up, and arc the ball more by bringing her shot to a higer apex. She could also hold her follow through longer and break her writst a little harder.
She does some things very nice but in order to rank expert, I would like to see these areas enhanced a bit.
Cue: raise elbow, break wrist, follow through.

Awesome Free Throw Set Up
I wish my school had that set-up!
Stage: Intermediate-Advanced (There's always ways to improve.)
Characteristics: She's square to the hoop, has a routine, eyes the rim, keeping her elbow below the ball, she coaxes an arch and gets a spin on it with a flick of the wrist. She also maintains her balance as she shoots, leaning slightly forward and not stepping the free throw line.
What to Change: If the elbow rose at more of a right angle, up and out with the "hand in the cookie jar" signature flick, she would find better arc (the middle shot was definitely flat, but the back spin saved the shot). She should transfer more of the power into her legs, so that her arms are not working as hard and can provide the right angle more effortlessly.
Cues:
"Elbow up then out."
"Leg power"
