Backhand review 2
I believe this player is an intermediate player with a good familiarity with the backhand swing; however, I was troubled that he was not in ready position to begin the swing, but stood sideways. An experienced player, I feel, would have automatically started in the ready position. His footwork, however, showed that he has had experience hitting the backhand since he took a clear step forward with his right foot and shifted his weight onto it.
The racquet positioning and movement also exhibited intermediate skill level. The racquet head was held above his wrist during the backswing. The contact was made with the ball at hip level with the right arm straight. The follow-through was performed, with a straight arm, around the front of his body with the racquet head traveling upward. The movement was very fluid.
The cue I would give this player is simply "be in ready position."
