Soccer!

Heading a soccer ball is a basic skill in soccer.

A few of the biggest mistakes with heading are hitting the ball with your eyes closed, which causes the ball to go in amny different directions. Letting the ball just hit off of your head, instead of jumping/moving into the ball. Keeping your mouth open and your tongue in is a really big one, doesn't seem like this would be a problem, but people tend to bite down on their tongues or chomp on their teeth.

When doing a header you must always keep your eyes on the ball.
You want to hit the ball with the the forehead area of your head, not on top or on the sides.
You want to act as if you are pushing through a window with your arms and jump and meet the ball.
Do not let the ball come to you, it will just slightly come off of your head.

You can head the ball up or down, if you are heading the ball down you want to get over the ball and force the ball down.

I think that some of the improvements here on the wrong headers is to meet the ball, and use the forehead.

Teaching Cues:
